Buying a Car in Manitoba: Your Rights & Consumer Protection Rules

Last updated October 4, 2026

Manitoba regulates vehicle sales through the Manitoba Consumer Protection Office (CPO) — with pricing and disclosure rules closer to Ontario's than many other provinces'. Here's what that actually means for you before you sign anything.

The advertised price has to be the real price

Like Ontario, Manitoba requires all-in advertised pricing — the price you see must be the final price before tax, including admin and any financing-office fees. If a number is advertised, that's what you should be quoted when you ask — fees stacked on afterward aren't a normal add-on.

You're entitled to a Certificate of Inspection and an honest history

Dealers must supply a valid Certificate of Inspection on a used vehicle, and must disclose known facts about its history and condition. Ask to see the certificate before you sign, not after — it's your record that the vehicle actually passed.
